No, you cannot do that. These batteries put out 1.2 volts to 1.5 volts. The unit requires 3.5 volts minimum to operate. It has 3 batteries. The batteries have to be wired in series to get the 3.5 volts minimum required to operate the unit. If you take out one battery, you only have 2.4 volts and the pager would not operate at all. (Note: 3.5 volts is the standard voltage to run a microprocessor chip. If you have a pager that uses a different voltage, the same rule applies. You cannot leave out or bypass one of the batteries. The unit will not operate.)
