  5.  @katnbret  Americans are against big invasive government and prefer freedom and freedom of choice. They do not want the government "protecting" them in any area unless it is absolutely necessary. If people want to be "protected" and eat healthy, they can CHOOSE to eat organic foods. The definition of organic foods is tightly regulated and the United States Department of Agriculture maintains a very long list of items that cannot be in organic foods. In order to go into any food, an ingredient must pass a rigorous safety test with the Food and Drug Administration. Instead of maintaining a list of banned substances, the FDA maintains a list of approved substances. If it is not on the approved list -- it is automatically banned. The average lifespan of an American is 76 years. And unless that number dramatically changes, Americans do not see a problem and want to eat whatever tastes good. 😋
