Who said Congress has "oversight" over the Supreme Court?

@geelee1977 Article III of the Constitution does not give Congress any oversight whatsoever over the Supreme Court and does not say that Congress can discipline or impeach a justice. And it cannot be derived through legislative authority or the passing of federal laws -- it would require an amendment to the Constitution. All federal laws have to comply with what the Constitution says. Maybe you should give it a read.

@geelee1977 Just a word from the uneducated here: 1. Impeachment IS a judicial process. It is the same process as the police charging someone with a crime and then the Senate holds a trial. 2. As stated in the Constitution, impeachment can only be done for high crimes and misdemeanors -- not anything. And the only remedy is removal from office -- Congress cannot levy various punishments for various offenses. 3. If Congress did pass an ethics law for the Supreme Court (or they were subject to a current one) they still could not directly impeach -- a violation of federal law would go to DOJ -- not Congress. Then IF the justice were found guilty of a high crime or misdemeanor in a court of law, Congress could impeach and they could be removed from office. Also . . Ethics oversight by Congress is the subject of this comment thread and all the house can do is impeach, so your impeachment claim is legitimately assumed.

Why can't they do what they want when they want? It is their court and they are in charge.

@dreamshakejunya These justices have YEARS of experience judging right and wrong between various parties. They have been adjudicating the law all of their lives. They know what to do and how to run their court. They do not need any checks and balances. And they do not need any interference from stupid corrupt politicians. If any justice breaks a United States law, the DOJ knows how to handle it. And if they have not broken any laws, they should be left alone to do their job (which they are VERY good at). And YES I am serious.

I do not see a reason to hold an ethics hearing.
