  2. Actually, the Supreme Court did not "criminalize homelessness." They said that one specific paragraph in the Constitution does not cover homelessness. Aside from that, one tiny small town in Oregon did make sleeping on public property illegal. But that is one small town of 40,000 population -- it is not "the U.S." And options to challenge the law in that town have not been exhausted. Homeless people still have the option of moving to another town.

  5. @jayleeper1512  You are spreading a lot of false information: 1. Most poor people have ways to post bail by borrowing from relatives or using a bonding agent. 2. Failure to post bail does not mean "you go to prison" -- it means that you are held in local detention until your trial.

You cannot be arrested in the United States for critizing the government or its leader or saying, "free Hong Kong" or calling a "special operation" a war. In 2022, there were an estimated 291,395 white people experiencing homelessness, compared to 217,366 African Americans. However, African Americans make up only 13% of the general population, while accounting for more than 40% of the homeless population. African Americans are also more likely to be homeless families with children, making up more than 50% of those families." It is not "an attempt to increase the prison population." What a stupid idea. American tax dollars pay $65,000 a year to house ONE criminal.

They have all different kinds of ideas, attitudes, cultural biases, and often just see things differently based upon who they are as a person. They are liable to make any type of comment or ask any type of question. What is strange and usual is only strange and unusual when it is remote from you. When it appears in your backyard to stay, it becomes commonplace. When someone asks me a question, I just answer it, without trying to figure out where they are coming from.

The fact is, for example, San Diego passed a law saying that you cannot feed people in one specific park because the city ended up having to pay a couple of thousand for the cleanup. That does not exclude feeding people on private property. And they were not blocked from other parks or other public spaces. And it does not block you from renting an apartment and putting a homeless person in it. You could even do that in Grants Pass, Oregon. And it definitely DOES NOT make it "illegal to be homeless or poor." Is there some reason that you cannot be truthful? If those people feeding the homeless in the park had of cleaned up their own mess, the city would not have said anything. And I understand that all of the trash and litter is a big issue in Grants Pass, Oregon. They issue one ticket for abusing the park and a separate ticket for having trash and clutter around your tent.

The FACTS are that poor people have families just like other people. When they get arrested, those families leap into action and pool some money to pay the bail. I have had people call me on the telephone and tell me their family member was arrested and can I contribute to the bail. What about you?? The bondsman charges 10 to 15 percent. So if your bail is set at $3000, the family only has to pay $300. A jail is in the city, and the people who are there have not been convicted of a crime. A prison is (usually) situated away from the city for public safety, and the residents there have all been convicted, and are serving their sentences. Prisons have a high population, libraries, outdoor recreation, and cafeteria. They are filled with convicts. Laws are not passed in a vacuum. Laws are passed to solve a specific problem. Studies show that when there is no bail system, 9% of the people arrested fail to show up for their trial date. So if you want to get rid of the bail system, it is incumbent upon you to come up with a way to get those people to go to their court date. You are overlooking that 91.4% of the people who cannot make bail will either plead guilty or be found guilty in court. Those GUILTY CRIMINALS will be given prison sentences and the time served in jail will be deducted from their prison sentence. It does not matter whether they could make bail or not because they are criminals who will be serving time anyway. Your ignorant comment about "a war on the poor" is probably the stupidest thing ever said in the history of the world: One-third of the federal budget ($2.2 trillion) goes to programs to help the poor. In addition to federal, the states and local governments give almost a trillion. Private organizations give about $1 trillion. We have 40 million poor people in America and they are given help of about $4.5 trillion a year. WHAT "war on poor people" ????? 🤷
