The Statue of Liberty is a very, very important symbol of freedom to All Americans and solidifies our bond of friendship with France, regardless of the "technicalities." The Statue of Liberty stands with the Liberty Bell, the American Flag, the Bald Eagle and a handful of songs about freedom and America. It is the first symbol of America and freedom that immigrants see when they enter New York harbor. It is American history. My forebears are immigrants from Europe and all Americans are proud of it and its symbolic meaning. Without the entrance of the United States, France and all of Europe were lost -- that is a big difference. The entrance of the United States in the war was decisive and without (A LOT OF) help from the United States, you would be living in the Germanic Empire today. That is what he means by saying "the U.S. liberated France." (And do I need to mention America's decisive entry into World War I ?) Look up the Louisiana Purchase and the Alaska Purchase. The guy is trying to say some nice things about France. Is it necessary for you to come pick it apart with your disparaging negativity? 🤷‍♂️ 🤷‍♀️ In America we call what you just did: "Raining on his parade."
