@1brigalow Most of the material mined on the moon should be used to build in-orbit structures. Getting stuff off the moon only requires an electrical rail gun powered by sunlight. In the case of rare earths, small quantities are very valuable and getting them back to earth would only require small re-entry vehicles that could also be built on the Moon. In both cases, mining the Moon would be much easier and much less complicated than trying to catch asteroids in flight. As far as building large structures in orbit that can provide artificial gravity at a full 1G, these would cost far less than a viable Mars colony and could house far more people than we will ever get to Mars. In my opinion, NOT mining the Moon shows a tremendous lack of imagination and a deficit of hardcore analysis.

Moon crater mining! Is anyone looking into moon crater mining seriously? Moon craters are formed by astroids crashing into the moon. Many of these asteroids probably are very rich in metals or rare earths. Shouldn’t the moon craters therefore, be a good place for mining?

Nice video! Thank you.

Be careful! Never ever try and tell a story next to a fire in a tavern. Because if you do, this habit of yours of taking a five minute story and trying to get into a 25 minute endlessly, detailed mission of endurance trying to get to the nub of the five minute story will probably get you strangled. Please, please tell shorter stories that get to the point faster.
