Thank you, Mr. Patel for asking questions which betray your shallow understanding of history (of course who doesn’t have a shallow understanding of history, compared to Sarah Paine) that allow Sarah Paine to then explain to you what was really happening. Very effective technique for interviewing her.

@TheStrangeBloke He's definitely getting her to unpack it - by asking questions about alternative histories over and over again. Note how annoyed Sarah gets by the end of this clip.

Great video! Thank you. I applaud Mr. Patel for attempting to ask intelligent questions of Ms. Payne. Trying to ask intelligent questions of someone who has studied for a lifetime on these subjects is extremely difficult and takes a lot of courage.

@ Check your historical facts. There was no guarantee that Hitler was going to declare war of the United States. If Hitler had not done that, I think it would’ve been extremely difficult for FDR to convince the American public that we needed to fight in Germany first before defeating the Japanese. Yes, FDR did want to get into the war on the side of the British against Hitler, but it was not a slam dunk that getting Japan to attack us would have the desired result. (By the way, I am paraphrasing Sarah here.)

@ Check your historical facts. A German new boat may have sunk an American destroyer prior to December 7, 1941, but the US did not use that to declare war in Germany. Yes, you both were sinking American ships, cargo ships, prior to the attack of Pearl Harbor , but the US also did not use that as a pretax for declaring war on Germany because Germany had warned everyone that sending ships to Britain was sending them into a war zone and if the US wanted to send their ships into a war zone, they would be sunk. The act that caused America to declare war on Germany was the fact that Hitler declared war on the United States after the Pearl Harbor attack, even though his treaty of mutual support with Japan, did not require Germany to declare war on a country that the Japanese attacked, only on countries that attacked Japan.(Note, I am paraphrasing Sarah Paine here.)
