  1. As you said, your numbers are probably skewed by “survivor bias“. People with questionable cars who know that they’re probably going to be seeing even more repairs after a major one upcoming probably ditch the car or just don’t repair it if they can get away with it. As you said, this drives down your numbers. During World War II, the Air Force collected statistics on where B-17s that made it back to base were hit and was going to use that information to decide where to put more shielding. However, fortunately, somebody pointed out that the Air Force was taking a survey of bombers that actually survived And not the bombers that were shot down. The results of the Air Force study were heavily skewed away from putting shielding where it really would’ve benefited the cruise.
