A much better question: will the Boeing company ever come back from this and stop being one that lets mistakes like the 737 max out of the door? Once an organization begins to rot like the Boeing company seems to have, it’s extremely hard to change it back.

How can Boeing claim to have an effective software update ready when in just the past 48 hours significant new information has come out about the Ethiopian crash? I’m amazed when you say that you have confidence in Boeing when it is obvious that they are rushing a software patch out to protect their bottom line and withou waiting to make sure it’s correct so that passenger safety is not compromised. Considering that if you criticize Boeing or the FAA at all, you could easily be blacklisted and forced out of your chosen profession, I think it’s disingenuous of you to give an opinion about the safety of the 737 max.

Mentour Pilot The fact that the software update has been in development for several months does not reassure me considering that the MCAS system itself probably was in development far longer. Also, I still don’t believe that they can solve a problem when all of the information about the problem is not yet in. Doesn’t seem to make sense to me.

LizJ As others have said correctly, cameras would not replace sensors. They would supplement them. As far as the cost to add these to existing planes, I have to believe that it would be much less than the amount of money that Airlines have to spend after a single major crash.

How does the engine stay in place? Simple, COVID-19!

Why does the Boeing CEO still have a job? When the 737 max problems first arose, he showed us who he was when he attempted to get the FAA not to ground the 737 max so the At Boeing revenues would not be affected. What he could’ve done at that point, was to have taken the issue seriously and proceeded to do everything that Boeing is doing now without embarrassing himself and Boeing. When a person shows you who they are, believe them! I have no doubt that the Boeing CEO in the future will do exactly the same thing that he did initially and try and cover up any new problems that arise.

How did a dozen defects in the 737 max slip by the FAA? Was the FAA derelict or is this a case that Boeing hid these problems from the FAA?

Please tell me that everything that went wrong was blamed on the pilots! That’s the job of pilots, to take the blame for anything else that might happen on a poorly designed or poorly maintained airplane.

New subject: why aren’t there more cameras on commercial airliners so the pilots can quickly see what’s going on with the engines the wings the flaps the stabilizers and also in the cabin? It seems like there are a number of crashes that happen because the pilots did not appreciate the damage that your plane had taken and consequently didn’t know what the right thing to do was in order to get it onto the ground safely. Cameras are cheap and light and most modern airliners already have glass cockpit so there’s plenty of TV screens. Considering how much commercial airliners cost adding a few cameras that would allow pilots to know instantly if they’re landing gear was down or if an engine had fallen off would probably be quite worth their modest cost
