  1. If we could think beyond militarism + capitalism we could do a lot of good for everyone. The problem is how so many others are also all about militarism + their own corrupted form of a political -ism. Even among those small few countries who don't have a standing army there are often some kind of organized force like the Pontifical Swiss Guard of Vatican City or a volunteer militia like they have in Andorra. And we were really only in Afghanistan to wage war and gather intelligence about the global Islamic terrorism networks, not fix the problems of poverty and political corruption that's so prevalent in Afghanistan's society and culture. Hell, the US can't fix it's own laundry list of often similar problems - we're no example. I remember getting an email from a friend who was serving there laughing about how their allies in the Afghan army all got stoned every day before going out on patrol. And there were the dancing boys and the entire bacha bazi culture long before the US and its allies invaded after the attacks on 9/11. If we ever did much good it was a happy accident. 20 years or 2,000 - kingdoms and empires come and go, the names change, but not much has fundamentally changed in us except we've built all these wonderful toys and figured out amazing ways to blow stuff up. If we could only apply the truest words of wisdom I've ever heard in my time here -- "Be excellent to each other ... and PARTY ON, DUDES!" ✌🖖
