@Volkbrecht Who cares about libraries these days? Anyone with a brain. Libraries are lot more than just a building with books in it.

@S1X.S1X.S1X Because it is a profession with established principles, standards and practices concerning all aspects of the various roles of the people who work in a library, archiving, information management, and research. Not everyone who works in a library has one, but usually the director and other people running a library, or who work at a specialized library or archive, have a bachelors or masters degree or sometimes even a doctoral degree in Library and Information Sciences.

@marianjones8358 In June 2023, Governor Pritzker signed a bill making Illinois the first state to outlaw book bans, encouraging schools and libraries to embrace education, literary justice, and equity. (Illinois - surprised the heck out of me too but good on 'em!)

Millennia. Libraries are ancient institutions because everyone with any sense has recognized the need for and value of libraries.

@Jnss016 A lot of libraries pay the fees so that their patrons will be able to access those scientific studies and other publications locked behind a paywall. Public libraries are one of the best things about living in a free and open society.

@AdamYJ Damn straight! My mom worked for 20+ years at a Public Library, retiring as the manager of Circulation Department.

@jeepliving1 When I was a kid back in the 70's my mom worked at a Public Library. The library had a subscription to Playboy, but it wasn't even put out on the shelves because it would be stolen if it was. Someone had to leave their ID or something if they wanted to read it or look at the girls on the pages in-between.

And who are so quick to label anyone who isn't part of their tribe as some pejorative for being weak and easily upset are so weak and easily upset. Even more crazy that it's about something that often isn't even happening or a real problem. Crazy conservatives and repressed religious folks - making the world a worse place for all the rest of us.
