  1. As a long time insider I'll say that the US is a crazy place. As big as it is and with as diverse a population and variety of cultures and religions and ideologies of all sorts it probably shouldn't work at all. Theoretically it could all tear apart at the seams at any time and seems to try every generation or two, but in practice there are a few oligarchs and plutocrats overseeing the greatest kakistocracy the world has probably ever seen along with a most impressive military/industrial/police/prison complex that manages and maintains the status quo. It takes a certain willing suspension of disbelief to live here successfully.

  2. I get that they are still a problem, but hasn't Last Week Tonight talked about HOA's at least once or twice already? I'm surprised there aren't more incidents of people reacting violently to some of these managers. People have their whole lives invested in these homes and I bet the ones who get really screwed over feel like they don't have much left to live for.
