  1. He resigned so he didn't get fired. After the judge reduces or voids the charges he'll be able to go and get another job in law enforcement where he can do this all over again - maybe even kill someone or get himself killed.

  2. Now make him plead to a felony (say menacing with a deadly weapon) so he can never legally own another firearm or (hopefully) ever work in law enforcement again.
