Love it when they recognize how bad the Republican party has become, but I hate it when they don't recognize the rot that has always been there. The climate change aspect is the summer heat, increased storms, and changes to the growing season all of which are also increasing famine in many of these regions and especially in Africa. Some people would argue that there is political unrest, which is also a problem, but that's largely always been a problem in these areas and we didn't see the levels of migration we've seen over the past decade due to previous wars and authoritarian governments.

As for the man being involved, if he's even still in the picture then he should support the woman he's gotten pregnant. But often the man isn't even around anymore when a woman is making the decision with her provider about having an abortion. He doesn't have to help pay for the procedure or be there for her while she's recovering physically and emotionally. That socially accepted lack of responsibility for men is the reality of the masculine utopia we actually live in.

And that John McEntee bit makes me think that he should be arrested by the Secret Service who is responsible going after people passing counterfeit money. Federal law prohibits anyone from “forg[ing], counterfeit[ing], or alter[ing] any obligation or security of the United States” (like a five dollar bill) with the “intent to defraud” any other person.

The courts should only be involved if the doctor has committed malpractice against their patient or some form of fraud, abuse, or other technical violations of their duties or a patients rights like a HIPAA violation.

We've been moving forward an awful lot these past few centuries regarding technology and knowledge, but when it comes to the ways we treat each other it seems like we mostly go in circles, repeating the same old mistakes. Even when the class system changes we continued to adopt the problems of dominance hierarchies. I don't know what it's going take to stop that (other than proof of there being extraterrestrials, and even then I don't know if that would do more than add another seat at the table) but sadly I don't see it happening any time soon. Sure wish it would, though. It would be a lot easier if we could all just get along and play nice with each other.

  257. It's easier to understand if you realize that many people suffer from cognitive dissonance and are being fed a steady diet of fast news and lazy opinions about things. There's also he problem that it's easier for a lot of people to demonize things they don't understand than to take the time and try to figure it out, developing a nuanced position about a complex subject or about things that make us uncomfortable. And this second problem is something that exists on both sides of the political isle which makes people on the other side of the aisle crazy and only drives both sides further apart. And now for what some will call the conspiratorial part. Western nations have adversaries that have organized groups in their government that are actively trying to sow discord and division in our countries. Our intel communities do it to them as well so turn about is fair play - but it's part of the problem and it works.

But it's what happens when there are so many gerrymandered districts and wide-spread voters suppression combined with the Electoral College electoral system. The fact that Hillary was the other candidate didn't help either. A lot of people really didn't want a Clinton back in the White House and didn't vote because they didn't think Trump would actually win. They didn't make the same mistake in 2020 even with as unpopular as Joe Biden was.

And the reason why it's not Biden's fault is that the president doesn't control the price of gas or houses or products in the store. the prices on those things are largely based in supply and demand, set by the corporations and individual people running those businesses, and effected by third party costs and local city and state economies and taxes. Pretty much the only thing a president of either party can really be blamed for when it comes to prices are any tariffs they put in place.

One of the most important being that it depends on what the issue is - economics, personal freedom, foreign policy, religion, military policy, and various domestic subjects all are going to evoke different percentages of how people identify as one of those terms. There are people who are responsible, civilian gun owners who have been able to protect themselves and others because they were armed. it's part of what makes this whole debate so much more difficult. I'm all for laws about background checks and waiting periods for both guns and ammunition, minimum age requirements, licensing and ongoing training requirements for ownership, high capacity magazine bans as well as outright banning certain firearms, and I'd include some form of psychological screening pre-checks as well as making the penalties for violating gun violence laws much stronger. But as long as there are criminals using guns the rest of us who want and are able to defend against those people need to be armed as well because as we've seen from law enforcement - we can't count on the police to be there to help us.

But the people in the states cast votes for who will be the candidates in the primaries and then they cast votes for the candidates in the general election in November, right? So if enough people in a state vote for one candidate over the others then that's the candidate that gets the electoral college votes for that state. So in fact, the people in a state are indeed still determining which candidate gets the electoral college votes from their state (unless the delegates go against the wishes of the voters which doesn't happen very much). The overall volume of the national popular vote doesn't matter, but the popular vote in each state most certainly does. Seems like my lousy public school education worked out well enough to run circles around your stale talking points.

Reagan also did a lot of really terrible things like breaking the unions, ignoring the HIV/AIDS crisis and turning it into an epidemic, closing down mental hospitals and putting many of those patients out on the street, ramping up the War on Drugs along with the CIA flooding American inner cities with crack cocaine and the Ollie North Iran/Contra scandal, abolishing the Fairness Doctrine, and the list goes on and on.

None the less, we should still be able to be honest about Biden's problems, both from before his time as President and currently being his age, as well as all the amazing things his administration has gotten done over the past few years. Trump had 62,985,106 votes in 2016 and around 73.9 in 2020 whereas the votes for the Democrats candidate went from 69.5 to 80 million. Of course, it's only the Electoral college totals that matter, but the electoral college is still made up of the total votes in individual states, so if even only a few thousand voters here and there in those make-or-break individual states swing from R to D, or even just stay home, then Biden wins the popular vote AND the electoral college again.

Not sure how many people would get that reference today, but back then MBNA was a fairly large bank and credit card company headquartered in Wilmington, Delaware where in 1998, Hunter Biden had risen to the rank of executive vice president. If Joe Biden should be investigated for something it would be his relationship with them and other banks and credit card companies back in the day. Plenty is actually a terrible metric and the reality is that the numbers from a recent poll by the Israeli think tank Jewish People Policy Institute were fairly evenly split. As you indicated, the majority with 40% chose defeating Hamas over returning the hostages, 32% prioritized returning the hostages over defeating Hamas and 28% responded with "can't answer". That's only an 8% difference between the defeat Hamas and the return the hostages positions.

  672. There's a memory I have from when I was really young, probably six. It was the mid 1970's, so no cell phones yet, and my family had just moved into a new home in a new neighborhood. I went out to explore and met some of the neighborhood kids, making friends with them the way us Gen X kids did back then. We spent the afternoon and into the early evening playing on our street. Problem was my parents didn't know where I was, and when they finally found me they were furious that I hadn't come home to let them know where I was and what I was doing. I specifically remember my mom being really upset and saying that she "had pictures of me hurt or dead on some piece of construction equipment" (there was some heavy machinery near by being used for clearing land and new home construction). I was totally confused what she meant because, one I was fine, but also she clearly didn't have any pictures like that. I realized later that she meant mental images, but it always stayed with me as a weird thing to say. these days, when everyone has a phone that can take pictures, it might not be such weird thing to say to a kid. At least not as long as the parent actually had the pictures.

So we have the only case that went forward. Seems like it might be best to not let judges a president appoints hear a case involving said president. For eggs, products that use eggs, and chicken meat there were a lot of culling of chickens due to avian flu outbreaks. Everyone is raising their bottom line prices from farmers and ranchers to other manufacturers of household goods. And a lot of lower paid employees all along the line from the people supplying the raw materials to the people making things with those raw materials to the people working at the stores have been getting much needed pay increases in order to keep up with other cost of living increases where they live. I'm sure there are other factors too, but these all are also a big part of the problem.

The problem with that position is that if one or both of the candidate are not doing that fact checking for whatever reason, then it falls on the moderators to step in and call out the lies and misinformation being spread by the candidates and correct the record as much as possible. Otherwise the debate devolves into a back and forth of meaningless noise and sophistry that does a disservice to the voting public who are watching. It's not like CNN doesn't have a whole staff of people with Internet access who can do the research in real time and quickly provide feedback to the moderators about what the candidates are saying.

The thing about your comment is that Trump started it but Biden continued it, and as such both men share a responsibility for the part of our current economic situation being effected by those tariffs, even if there might be a good reason for those tariffs depending on who you ask. Biden hasn't rescind Trump's tariffs during his term because China didn't meet it's part of an agreed upon trade obligation, even though there was pressure from the American business community in 2022 to remove them as companies struggled with inflation and supply chain disruptions while at the same time labor unions urged Biden to keep Trump's tariffs in place. As such, Biden is also to blame for the continuing problems to those parts of the economy that the tariffs with China are effecting. Tariffs can be a complicated subject and why I specifically excluded them.

Truman created an opaque, permanent, and unelected bureaucracy, armed with such broad discretion that it is nearly impossible to hold it accountable or to prevent it from abusing its myriad powers.
