If it's all part of God's plan then God is indeed responsible for everything including the sins of men. There wouldn't even be sin if God hadn't provided the opportunity in the first place. How did an all knowing, all seeing being not see that whole original sin thing coming? It's a nutty origin story.

I was completely on the side of Israel after the October 7th attack and I still stand with Israel. But the IDF has killed so many civilians in Gaza and the fighting is clearly doing more harm than good and also doing more long term damage to the reputation and security of Israel that I'm now at the point where Israel needs a ceasefire. Obviously the hostages need to be returned and Hamas and others need to stop attacking Israel, but that doesn't mean that Israel shouldn't do the right thing and stop making the situation worse. They also need to stop taking Palestinian homes and creating settlements on the West Bank.

@a5cent That's not really all that relevant to my position but I'll push back to your reply by pointing out that there are also plenty of Israelis who do want the hostages returned even if that means allowing Hamas to retain control over Gaza. Plenty is actually a terrible metric and the reality is that the numbers from a recent poll by the Israeli think tank Jewish People Policy Institute were fairly evenly split. As you indicated, the majority with 40% chose defeating Hamas over returning the hostages, 32% prioritized returning the hostages over defeating Hamas and 28% responded with "can't answer". That's only an 8% difference between the defeat Hamas and the return the hostages positions.

@a5cent Okay, but you wrote in your reply that "Israel doesn't care about the hostages" and that "We have plenty of Israelis on record saying they aren't the most important concern", correct? As it turns out you were not writing about all Israelis but a very specific subset of those in power. If you had indicated that you only meant that group of people calling the shots and not "plenty of Israelis" in general then I would have been in agreement that that specific and relatively small group of Israelis do not seem to care about the hostages and I wouldn't have replied other than to agree with you. If you are going to take issue with a commonly repeated generalization from my comment (or anyone else's) and push back on it, then it would be best of you also were more precise about who or what you are referencing in your response in order to be clear about the point you are trying to make.
