While the idea of setting up traps around my house has it's engineering and Rube Goldberg machine making appeal (I'd never put them outside beyond in front of a window or door someone might try to break in through) I wouldn't do it in case the person breaking in was a little kid or someone with the authority to legally enter a residence while the owner isn't there. That being said, I could see setting up non-lethal annoyance traps like dye packets or malodorous glue with glitter that sprays all over someone.
