My store has plexi-shields at the registers and the cashier was wearing a mask and gloves, but I saw some other staff using only one or the other as well as a few not wearing either - just like the rest of the people shopping. It seemed like more of a matter of personal choice as to how much protection they wanted to be using. But I'll agree that corporate America doesn't GAF about it's staff in ways that really matter. It's part of why they are always happy to get rid of unions or keep any kind of employee organizing out of the workplace in the first place. It's also a shame the way US unions have gotten their own bad reputation over the years. Now more than ever is the time to start organizing to initiate the changes we need to make happen when we return to a post-pandemic world and can effect change through group demonstration, action, and labor strikes if needed. I hope we don't let this pass too and just go back to being a consumer credit driven corporate-ruled culture rolling steadily towards the next crisis.

  2. The clear plexiglass screens are happening here too. I think it's a good idea. Since at least some percentage of the customers are sick it's also better for the cashiers to have up a physical barrier to stay safe from us. I still wish I could go shopping over night when hardly anyone was usually in the stores except the stockers.

  3. Just mentioned unions in another post. I suspect we will see an uptick in workplace organizing again after all this - or sooner.
