Imagine a gay or trans first-nations person delivering Laura Ingraham's rant at 3:36 with a chyron that reads - "May 14, 1607 - Massive Illegal Immigration on Eastern Coast by Undocumented Europeans - Will They Ever Assimilate?" - although the date thing is a problem because the people already here didn't worry about time or measure the years like we do but I need people get that it's a reference to Jamestown - DAMMIT! I'd really appreciate it of more folks on the Left and in the Center would talk about how if somehow Trump, or some other regressive right-winger, manages to get back into office they're going to do their best to subvert our democracy using a program being developed called Project 2025. Briefly, it is a far-right plan to purge and reshape the U.S. Federal government in the event of a Republican victory in the 2024 United States presidential election. The plan would perform a rapid takeover of the entire U.S. federal government under a maximalist version of the unitary executive theory – a theory proposing the president of the United States has absolute power of the executive branch – upon inauguration. The development of the plan is led by the Heritage Foundation, a conservative U.S. think tank. The plan includes widespread changes across the entire government. With regards to climate policy, Project 2025 specifically plans to undo the Inflation Reduction Act, shut down the Department of Energy's Loan Programs Office, and increase the extraction and use of fossil fuels, among other measures. But it won't stop there. We can count on them also erasing or at least changing policy on any number of Progressive policies they detest -- LGBTQIA+ equality, civil rights, voting rights, and many forms of federal oversight designed to protect the general public. The fact that every pundit and reporter on the Left isn't warning about this every single day is incredibly short-sighted in my opinion, especially with all the negativity around the Biden administration. Love him, hate him or just feel indifferent about him, this should be all the reason people who think democracy (flawed as it is) is better than the alternatives need to keep Republicans out of office - especially from the Executive branch. Most people didn’t pay attention the "Project for the New American Century" back in the late 90's and we got the Bush/Cheney mess for eight years and the fiasco called the Iraq war and expansive War of Terror political overreach.   44. If you didn't bother to vote than you should be ashamed of yourself. It's a basic civic duty that we only have to do every two to four years in most cases. The worst part is when we do vote, put democrats in power, and then they don't do shit to fix problems. And of course there's the whole gerrymandered districts and other Republican voting shenanigans to help make sure they retain power. But yes, at the very least vote.

  46. This was decades ago in the mid-70's. A couple of friends and I were paddled by our public grade-school principal at Chaparral elementary because we had been "throwing rocks" on the playground. What we were actually doing was tossing rocks into a huge pool of water that had formed and was about a foot deep in spots, to see who could make the best splash. But that distinction didn't matter to the teacher who took us to the principal or the principal. We were rowdy boys acting up and had to be made an example. And this was in the very liberal hippy haven of Santa Fe, New Mexico. They did not contact our parents for permission nor let them know what had happened. And people wondered why I never had respect for school administrators and didn't want to be at school later on.
