Comments by "Orwellian Horseman of the Apocalypse" (@DennisMoore664) on "Should the Police Shut Down K-9 Units?" video.
It's like people commenting were too busy reading the comments and didn't watch the video or at least not where it mentioned that. It's a trip how an untrained dog that bites someone gets labeled as dangerous and is put down, but when the dog was trained and re-enforced to bite people it gets rewarded even if bites the wrong person from time to time. Crazy how much that describes the police themselves now that I'm thinking about it. All these people saying "just don't resist" would be the first ones to freak out and resist of a big police dog was mauling their arm or leg or face. And so would I! I can't think of many people so passive or with such self-control that they wouldn't be screaming and thrashing around (AKA resisting) if they were being attacked and bitten by a dog.

"Shouldn'ta been out after dark" is the excuse if anyone complains

@Rocanala Vidor, TX for example

The cost of its life. A big dog like a German Shepard will probably scare off most casual intruders. But someone who is determined to hurt you and has a gun or any other weapon will just kill the dog and keep coming.

I thought biting was bad.

"bite sports" - don't we teach our kids that biting is bad? So how can it be a sport? Way to be part of the problem.

@x941bri_ It's all fun and games until someone you love gets mauled by a dog that's been bred to bite as you put it. Funny thing Is I was just arguing against the outlawing of "Bully Breeds" that's happening in the UK. You're email is making me reconsider my position on that. Good job.

Apparently from many of the comments to this video and the people saying it's bad (and online in general - the crazy on AOL even with moderation is a trip) we are still surrounded people who have only the thinnest veneer of being civilized or who are outright faking it. We put on airs and dress up nice but there are a lot of barbarians out there just barely holding back. I'm starting to think maybe I need a dog! Can't have a dog-shaft gap now can we?

@ALotOfCancer Seems simple to me. We teach our children not to bite. We train our pets not to bite. We say it's poor sportsmanship or disqualifying if someone bites someone else during a professional fight or other contact sport. Civilized people think making animals bite and fight each other is immoral and wrong. It's only when we get to the dirtiest kinds of uncivilized street fighting or when you are defending your life that biting begins to become acceptable. And even in the dirtiest fight biting isn't a go-to move for most people because it escalates even an uncivilized event into something truly awful. Which I'm sure is part of the intent with the use of attack dogs - such a gross thing to do and try to defend.

@DeAlexon12 How do you play tug of war your dog? I'm guessing you use some kind of chew toy. People shouldn't be used as a chew toy. Weaponizing animals is gross.

@DeAlexon12 You'd only be partly right - I don't currently have a dog. It's just me and I can't devote enough time to properly care for a dog. But I grew up up with dogs and have been around them as an adult and will probably have one again after I'm retired. I love dogs and I hate seeing them used as a weapon. I understand what you are saying about play and rough-housing. That's fine, but biting as never something we encouraged in any of our dogs and actively discouraged if it gets too rough. There's a reason they have chew toys and bones. The idea of biting ever being considered a sport is, to me, just gross. And thank you for using the example of boxing (you fell into my trap moo-ha-ha! - JK 😀). I don't know who the greatest boxer is but Mike Tyson is certainly one of them. Sadly, he'll probably always be remembered as that dude who chewed the other dudes ear off when he fought Holyfield in '97. There's no crying in baseball and not supposed to be any biting in boxing or other combat and contact sports. The only time biting is okay is as a last ditch defense move if your life is on the line - or as retaliation is you're being bitten.

@braidend4379 Have your own gun and keep the dog alive. Unless you live in a primitive lifestyle or where there isn't a lot of technology, using a dog for home defense is dumb and lazy when we have much better tools to do the job. Have a dog for companionship and the love they give, not because it can be a shield.

@braidend4379 Like I said previously, unless you live in a primitive lifestyle or where there isn't a lot of technology - I should have added "or restrictive gun laws". If a dog really is the best defense available then that's a damn shame but you gotta do what you gotta do. As far as those individual stories providing evidence for your arguments, I could provide others backing up mine. Just do a search with the term "Dog shot and killed during home invasion" and you'll get example after example. I'm just grateful I live where I have better home security technology available and the right to defend myself with a firearm so I can let a dog be my pet and not for protection. Besides, I have a fondness for basset hounds and mixed-breed mutts so there's not much home defense fear factor from them.
