That bothers me too. It's all well and good that some of them are showing up after the fact, but that none of them called while it was happening speaks very poorly of them.

I expect that even after this arrest there will be people trying to claim it was someone from Venezuela or some other kind of nonsense.

2:13 - "It's not uncommon for an officer to make an arrest that eventually gets thrown out" he said as if that's normal and okay. Maybe it should be a rare thing and a red-flag warning about the officer.

@LoveToday8 I'd suspect that if police had been called there would be mention of that in the story or that the people returned to find some notice by the police that they had responded to a disturbance and break in. The story didn't make it sound like there was any police involvement until after the people got back home and found out what had happened. It's why so many people in the comments, not just me, are talking about the neighbors not calling the police.

I love Gilda Radner but only old farts like me are going to get that reference.

Took 'em long enough. Still, better late than never I guess.

I wonder what would happen if someone did shoot some of these thieves? If they went to trial I suspect a jury might be sympathetic.
2
How about we start by making the theft of anything over twenty dollars no longer "petty".

I do appreciate that the reporter mentioned how this has been happening for years and not acting like our political system has reached some new low. We are capitalist nation - we have the best politicians money can buy.

So I can just leave without paying for my groceries? I didn't realize that was an option. Let's see what happens when I go to King Soopers next time. Or is it just that store in Centennial? Might be worth the trip.

Sounded more like a squeal to me.

They should all have to be insured and bonded and if they can't be either for prior or current problems then they can't be a cop. And yeah, qualified immunity has to go.

the only way that happens is when cops stop other cops. There are too many predators in the profession of law enforcement. And between the unions and internal investigations that almost always support and clear the officers and the all too common practice of allowing an officer to resign so they can get another job doing the same things in a new community, police are their own worst PR enemy. Fear turns every relationship bad and because of all the predators in your ranks that we keep finding out about we have to fear you all just like we hear police fear every traffic stop. The only people that can fix the problems in law enforcement is law enforcement and for all the reasons that get trotted out that doesn't happen. BTW - if you really are a police officer, thank you for your service. It's a hard gig dealing with drunks and assholes.

Sanctuary Districts - that'll fix it!

She just such a trashy little mean girl.

Cops often say the quiet parts out loud. They're arrogant and often not very bright or they wouldn't be cops - at least not the loser local yokel variety. Oh yeah, their job is to lie to you too. Let's not leave that detail out.
1
And then there's Aurora and Denver and Colorado Springs and... North, south, east and west - same police predators, same police problems.

By that logic all the unhinged hate from the Trumpublicans must mean the woke agenda of the Democrats must be doing something right. Of course denial, projection, and gaslighting are the republican strengths.

Don't kid yourself, most cops start out spoiled. It's why they go into law enforcement. If they wanted to help people they'd be paramedics or firefighters or social worker or any of a dozen other professions. But they want the job with authoritah of a badge and a gun where people have to obey your commands or you can hurt or even kill them. Plus you get to drive fast and wear those cool sunglasses like some kind of certified badass. I have a hell of alot more respect for someone who joins the Peace Corp instead of the Police Force.

don't do that

@cappiece3786 It is if you're old Bankrupt Donny.

Dude, that story or ones just like it are going on all over the place. Anyone who thinks any story of police corruption is unique to that place is fooling themself. The profession of law enforcement is filled everywhere with predators and the people who enable and defend them - hell, that's what it's founded on. They were and mostly still are the enforcers of the people in charge and who would help the sheriff collect taxes and fines from the populace. It would be difficult to find a department or city precinct without at least several such individual predators - probably many such in most places. And all the other officers know it, but as long the behavior is tolerated, excused, or often encouraged they all need to stop acting surprised and aggrieved when many of the people they interact with mistrust them as a group. It's a truly narcissistic abuser who also expects you to love and admire them while living in fear and absolute obedience.
