Gun fetishists are an embarrassment to those of us who are not and remember (and miss) what the NRA used to be.

Exactly - only having ten or eleven minutes for him is just enough to get things started. To heck with the break! Take care of the sponsors all at once at the end of the broadcast.

@fuzzywzhe why would they reply to an aggressive and demanding post like that? You're either not very bright or just a bad person - probably both.
7
@ericlipps9459 Someone saying/writing "America isn't a democracy, it's a republic." is a sure sign you shouldn't interact with that person. They're lost - just walk away slowly and try not to make eye contact.

@dennisyoung4631 I think the more common spelling (at least in the US) is with a "u" as in guano. They are indeed full of it.

It happened before. It will happen again. It's just a question of when.

Gun laws work in Australia. The US has plenty of gun laws that often aren't well enforced or are easily worked around. And now with the ability to 3D print ghost guns on the rise the hope of the US to ever be a country with no gun violence or mass shootings seems further and further out of reach. I'm not sure if it exists in Australia but there is also a mythical quality to guns in the US that at one time was fairly universal among boys and men and even among plenty of women, and that in many places still is. The frontiersman with his trusty rifle or the gunfighter with his six-shooter are classic tropes in American culture that aren't found in most other countries. The indoctrination starts young and is still pervasive throughout the country, especially in more rural areas. Then there's the way the US news media, especially on the conservative side, is constantly pushing fear and that everyone not like them is a danger. And politicians, again especially conservative ones, can't do things that open them up to being seen as "soft on crime" or as making law abiding citizens more vulnerable to a "bad guy with a gun". It's more likely that we will (and do) see change at the city, county or state level long before any significant national change happens.

Yeah, that episode had a vicious end. I remember the scenes of the two guys running through halls of the Enterprise to the transporter room as images of burning buildings and wasted urban landscapes are superimposed over them, each beaming down to their world filled only with the dead to end their days alone with their hatred for one another. It had a deep impact on my young mind on a lot of levels. Very powerful imagery for late 60's and hopefully not prescient for our future, but people who can only see things in binary absolutes will probably be the downfall of the rest of us.

@dennisyoung4631 Nice! Loves me some etymology -👍🖖

We're all dead already and this IS HELL!!!

It's almost like there's an established order or class system in place that somehow continues to propagate and support its most well off few at the expense of the larger population while utilizing a well honed, socially weaponized marketing program to help distract, placate and buy off the larger population and a militarized enforcement arm to crush any opposition that starts to get too vocal or close to making real changes to the society they don't approve of being made. I sure am glad I live a free democratic Republic and not that dystopian nightmare!

Depends on the mind but, in general, any number of unhealthy ways that often don't work very well or for very long and bring other problems with them like addiction and incarceration.

So few people bring up his part in the whole Iran-Contra affair back in the day. Barr has been a partisan hack his whole damned life. Why can't I ever have a leader I frelling respect? All the good ones get pushed aside by the establishment quislings.

"There's a sucker born every minute" - probably P.T. Barnum

3:53 - The reason wages never recovered after the Reagan presidency is because they weren't supposed to. The people who really make the decisions and run the country have just been getting things back to normal ever since they put the first celebrity president in place in 1980. The Power Elite everywhere view the rest of us as nothing more than means to achieving their ends and only give us just enough to keep us from open revolution. So I ask you - how's the water feel, froggy? Warm enough for you yet?

#390? It was in my top three.

And there's all the different kinds of anxiety disorders some people have. I've had bouts of severe depression too, but it's anxiety that's my primary companion. People are a mess!

I had the same problem with the title. I suspect that in his dark, cold heart Pence is a Christian and he'd definitely a con man. But religion and con-artistry is one of the oldest professions and rarely an either/or choice. Whoever comes up with the titles for Thom does that too often on these YouTube videos. I'm often left wanting to comment "D. All of the above" or just "Yes".

5:25 - that anyone but their chosen few should have political power is anathema to conservative thinkers. Their prefered State does seem to be a feudal one.
1
We can trace most problems in the US today back to the Reagan administration and his actions.

@fredflintstone9657 Never Never Land.

Texans shouldn't put up with this authoritarian garbage. It makes them look like ... well, I don't want to write it out because it will get my comment deleted. But it makes them look really bad.

While grift is now and has always been a part of politics, old Bankrupt Donny and his cronies have taken it to a bigly extreme. But hey, as long as those libs get owned, right?

Neo-Feudalism in a Cyberpunk world - and so it begins...again.

@owlcowl I appreciate that - and in both ways.

I'm not sure if Trump was elected to act as pressure release for the Alt-Right or a trigger to really set things off, but it was a fascinating choice.
1
Trolling, hate, and cancelling people/groups has always been the conservative go to policy. They cry conservative tears (yum yum) when the hated libs stand up for themselves and punch back. Conservatives do a lot of jingoistic projection about weakness when there are few snowflakes more easily triggered than a right-wing Birch society wannabe. It's one of their many tells.

Nikki Haley - their dream for the post-Trump president - talk about any empty barrel!

Don't forget Bolsonaro from Brazil. There are just too many to keep track of them all. Crap that's depressing.

What makes a parent the most vulnerable? What's the worst way to hurt someone? Hurt their children.

Regardless of who actually said it, the base of both parties are guilty of the "You can fool ... some of the people all the time" part of that old adage. Whether they fall in love or fall in line, anyone who still identifies as either of the two parties and votes purely on party loyalty is a gullible fool of the worst kind. Part of the difference is that Republicans will turn out for a guy like Trump who appeals to that jingoistic worst-part-of-us, sometimes even more so. Democrats sing the songs of putting people first and hope and change but end up doing plenty of damage during their terms of office too. The take away is that save for the rare few, we're just about all terribly gullible about one thing or another. The question is why people keep supporting a choice when it was obviously a mistake. Is that still being gullible or something much worse? 2020! - the election that just might change everything. We'll see.

And yet again, Reagan and his administration were the worst of us.

The Devil made 'em do it! This is so dumb that I can't decide if I want to laugh, cry, or break stuff.
