People are cruel to all kinds of animals, but getting upset at someone for what you recognized as a joke was silly. Maybe direct that outrage towards the important stuff like factory farming and the Sixth Mass Extinction?

  12.  @pansepot1490  Americans are not fine with the Status Quo (the for-profit aspect of our healthcare system being part of that status quo) - rich Americans who control what legislation the politicians they own pass into law are. Until the American People (I hate that term - we're never unified) can get passed the Lib/Con death match of distraction you should hope the Chinese (they are the only other world power financially strong enough who could do it on their own) don't crash the US dollar and really throw the West into financial chaos. It will be interesting to see how Europe handles it's own security if the US eventually has to withdraw from the continent. Bon chance, y'all!

Look for the story about the trashed house in Colorado Springs that got numerous 500K+ offers once the seller could finally get the old occupant out and put it on the market. It's a big house, but there's going to be lots of costs to rebuild large parts of it.

  18. If someone is vaccinated they are in a much better place to return to their old lives. We've reached the place in the U.S. where people have a choice to get that vaccine or not but we can't keep living in dramaland about COVID - unless someone always lives in dramaland. And that Venn diagram thing - I call that nuance (or being able to walk and chew gum at the same time). It's missing from a lot of our modern discourse - especially the online variety. Too much reductionist, all or nothing, MYSIDE-YOURSIDE thinking.

  21. I think most people can, even if they don't, entertain more than one idea or feeling at the same time. I have some intensely mixed feelings about myself and people and things in life. There's also the difference between the long form version of our feelings and what we are feeling in any given moment so that we can fundamentally love ourself or someone or something else and still experience hate at the same time. For me, I feel like if you don't love yourself then you probably feel like you deserve the bad things and don't deserve anything better.
