@TheRogueEmpire There was a lot going on in the Pacific theater during those last few months before the U.S. used it's two nuclear bombs to force the surrender of Japan. I don't think we'll ever truly know all the elements that were in play, but lest we forget there was a race between the Allies and Axis powers to see who could build and deploy a nuclear device first. Had either Germany or Japan succeeded there is no doubt that they would have used it to try and force a surrender either. From the Nanjing massacre to the Bombing of Dresden and the Blitz, All the combatants had proven a willingness to brutally attack civilian targets on purpose or simply as collateral damage. And besides being a horrific example, Hiroshima was also a legitimate military target. There were factories and other facilities aiding the war effort there. In way, the horror of what they did worked. No other nation has used a nuclear bomb to attack another country since.

You're going to get push-back (like you already have) because some folks don't understand or can't except how devoted the people were to the Emperor, but everyone should also remember that they Japanese and the Germans were working on their own atomic weapon programs. If anyone thinks that same nation that drew us into the Second World War by attacking our forces on December 7th wouldn't have deployed a nuclear device to either force the surrender of that now advancing enemy or at least forced a truce in their favor if they'd finished first; well, to use a phrase I heard a number of times recently - that's not rational.

Which is why we can't let them control the present. This is a good example of why an understanding of history needs to be such an important part of peoples education, lest folks like the guys on Fox or Kyle convince someone that what they are saying about the historical events of WWII is correct. Not saying it's all wrong, but all the presenters are expressing a limited view of what was going on at the time of the historical events.

History time. We didn't engage in the Second World War until our military was attacked by Japan. Wealthy industrialists and other America-First Populists in the US made sure their political allies kept us out of the war for years, letting England and the rest of Europe to be attacked and in many cases fall to the occupation by the Axis powers. The wealthy industrialists were making money with the Nazi's and the Populists argued for a "Fortress America" isolationism with an unhealthy dose of jingoism and racism often as part of the platform. Most of the rest of the country was just trying to survive the Great Depression.

@alekssavic1154 Actually I was arguing that anyone would have done it - not just the Nazi's or Japanese. I suspect England would have used a nuclear weapon against Hitler if they'd had an atomic bomb before the US. We might have too if we'd built it before VE Day. And if the Japanese military had let Takeo Yasuda, who had already helped build a cyclotron in 1937, develop the Ni-Go project the IJA authorized in 1941 instead of focusing so much on conventional weapons and warfare, the Japanese certainly would have been able to create the infrastructure to do the research for a viable nuclear weapon. They had a modernized, mechanized industrial system that was comparable to the technological level of development anywhere in the West and had been doing business with numerous Western corporations for decades before the war.
