When the 18th Amendment on the prohibition of alcohol was repealed at the federal level in 1933 it became the decision of each state and each municipality on how they were going to legislate it's sale. It took decades for it to be fully repealed at the state level in all 50 and there are still plenty parts of the country that don't permit the sale of alcohol in part or in total. The same thing is happening with marijuana and eventually it will come off the the Schedule One list (which also needs to happen with at least a few other currently criminalized naturally occurring substances - I'm looking at you psilocybin and peyote). I suspect the progress with legalizing marijuana nationally will be along the same lines and when corporations are ready to include it into the A and the T industries regulated by the ATF we'll see it come off the list. More too say about keeping a balance between corporations taking over the growing and sales and growing for personal use (like exceptions for home brewing), but that's a different video for a different day.
