@Kasun Mendis The Democratic party will never be "ours". Political systems are not put in place for the people - they are established to control the people for the ruling class.

@QuantumAscension1 Good advice. I just hope that anyone who can't or isn't going to vote for a presidential candidate won't just not participate and stay home, but will still vote for their local officials and on ballot measures. Not saying anything new here, but it's at the local level where every vote really can make a difference (sometimes).

@QuantumAscension1 I agree with a lot of that and I hope you're right. I'd argue that the Democratic party has already become that corporatist haven and has shifted significantly to the center right over the past thirty years as the neo-liberal politicians took over and the more radical and progressive ones were moved to the back of the bus or thrown off. They have absolutely been primed for disaffected paleo-cons to come on board - they already are. And I am amazed that we've gotten away with only having a two-party duopoly on politics in this country. It's almost like the system is rigged or something... Honestly, for all of the last 52 years that I can remember I'm kind of surprised every day I wake up and everything still works and we're all just going about our lives while the gears of society keep turning. I'm still fairly convinced the growing problems from climate change (or something) are going to make national politics the least of our worries at some point.
