Great interview, but I'm tired of hearing "family-of-four" used as the basis for these measurements. I understand that has been the traditional standard for measuring poverty, but the American Dream ideal of father-mother-two kids is archaic and needs to be changed for the age we are in. It should be based on a single adult and adjusted appropriately for any spouse and/or children from there. I'd argue that any single person making less than 20K a year is living in poverty in this country. And if you live in a larger US city you are probably living in extreme poverty. If anything, being poor and having children can put a person in a better place than if you are single and poor as you will have more access to shelter and other assistance for your children.
