  2. According to the USDA in 2015, the cost to raise a child to the age of 18 is "$284,570 if projected inflation costs are factored in". So probably closer 300K in 2022. Factor in the years of therapy and extra care for a kid coming to terms with being a child conceived by rape or incest and then double that for the lawyers fees and there's your baseline amount of compensation. They also have proven themselves to be unreliable guardians so they won't ever get any form of unsupervised visitation with the child and not until the mother and the child decide to let that happen.

Even not as a response to this kind of legislation, the idea of the victim of a sexual assault being able hold the family of their attacker financially liable or possibly even pursue criminal charges seems like a fair idea. There are certainly times when members of the family of a perpetrator of violent crime should be criminally punished alongside the person that they have enabled and whose escalating behaviors they excused and ignored over the years.
