@wh0586 Arthur C. Clarke's The Songs of Distant Earth addressed one solution to this problem, the multi-generation starship had a giant ice shield built in front of it that degraded as the ship travelled through space. They had to stop along the way at a planet with water to build new ice sheets to replace the eroded sections. Though it's been pointed out that other forms of energy would still be able to pass through the ice that could cause problems for a ship and crew. You probably need to also include some kind of barrier between the ice shield and the ship to help deflect those, but it's absolutely achievable.

I'm guessing the likelihood of us going extinct as well is around 99.99%. However, it's 0.01% possible we'll figure out how to transfer our consciousness into either a mechanical and/or new biological host. We would be able to effectively extend our lives for as long as we want or until we figure out a way for our consciousness to transcend the material plane and evolve into some form of energy being that will allow us to gain access to other dimensions or realms of existence.
