@erikjohnson1746 For a scenario like that you'd probably want to deploy a SWAT team to make the arrest. Or perhaps those people might be smarter than some adrenaline junkie agro door kicker and recognize that the armed gang members they need to arrest aren't going anywhere; that they can wait outside the trap house until a better time than 2AM when the person or people they are going to arrest might be passed out from their drug use. Or wait until the person leaves so they can be isolated away from the rest of the gang and be arrested on the police officers terms. That was too easy. Try harder.

@andre8272 Clearly you aren't familiar with the kind of people LE deals with either and even worse you obviously haven't made any effort to educate yourself. Police do fight crime, to be sure — but they are mainly called upon to be social workers, conflict mediators, traffic directors, mental health counselors, detailed report writers, neighborhood patrollers, and low-level law enforcers, sometimes all in the span of a single shift. In fact, the overwhelming majority of officers spend only a small fraction of their time responding to violent crime. I never suggested a SWAT team should be called out to deal with everything so don't try to strawman my words. But for the scenario Erik Johnson specified it would make more sense for specially trained and equipped police to make that kind of an arrest then your average patrol officer.

Being an enforcer of the state or the crown always brought with it privileges and power that made it alluring to bullies, thieves, rapists and murderers. Sadly, power also corrupts. So there are those who start out in the profession with the best of intentions to protect and serve and all that and the job changes them. They are surrounded by the horrorshow of the worst of us and/or they fall in with the rest of the bad apples and all their goodness turns to badness. Perhaps the policing part of law enforcement also shouldn't be a 20-plus year career.
