  1. I've believed for years that there was regular trans-pacific seafaring migration from East Asia to the America's during the last Ice Age. Having all that water trapped in glaciers would have lowered sea levels making available a number of islands along the way that aren't above sea level now that the waters have risen back up to inter-glacial levels. For the last 120,000 years sea level have been between at least 40 and 80 meters lower than they are now. During the most recent glacial period called the Wisconsinin period between 15,000(ish) and 60,000 years ago the sea levels ranged from 80 to almost 140 meters lower. And if there was a catastrophic warming event around 12,600 years ago that caused some kind of rapid or possibly only hours-long release of the 2-mile deep continental ice sheets. that much melt water rushing back into the oceans would have scoured off any settlement or structures in it's path. Any islands would probably have been hit by mile-high tsunamis and been wiped even cleaner than the continental shelf as it was submerged bellow rapidly rising sea levels. Something like this is probably responsible at least in part for the legends of Atlantis.
