  2. For the better part of the past century (and longer) most countries have been manipulated by the US and the major NATO countries on one side and the USSR, when that was thing, on the other. The only thing that's really changed since the Soviet Socialist Republic died away and a consolidated Russian Federation took its place is the rise of China as a third global player getting it's fingers into other countries for their mineral rights, other trade and general influence. The whole damn is thing is damn tricky - way above my pay grade!
