@ppss.6302 You got that right! We can be awesome but so often are just crap. It's almost like there is an effort from somewhere to drive wedges that divide and pit us against one another, and that convince us to do things that are against our better interests. I know, I know. I sound like a paranoid, crazy person.

@georgemetesky5519 Here's the problem with that excuse. Imagine someone writing this -- We Russians don't like being in this position either, but defending a 5-mile-wide enclave opposed by vicious enemies who are motivated by misogynistic promises to fanatical "martyrs", requires extreme deterrent force. The conflict in Donbas and Crimea could end immediately if Ukrainians agreed to live alongside a Russian State, peacefully. You're on the side of the oppressors when you make a statement like yours.

@hulamei3117 The size of the profit is moot. It's more money than they've ever had, it's making their lives demonstrably better, and it's their land. Are you saying that indigenous people shouldn't be allowed to make a profit from and do what they want with their land? There's a word for that - several actually.

There are a lot of indigenous people in the Southwest who are are profiting from having oil and gas extraction on their lands. Making it sound like indigenous people are a monolithic group who want to end fossil fuel extraction is a lazy generalization. Even sounds a bit racist.
