They were never better than anyone else - neither are the Palestinians. Individual people can be better than others, but not entire groups.

@brianfox771 Legislative elections were held in the Palestinian territories on 25 January 2006 in order to elect the second Palestinian Legislative Council (PLC), the legislature of the Palestinian National Authority (PNA). The result was a victory for Hamas, contesting under the list name of Change and Reform, which received 44.45% of the vote and won 74 of the 132 seats, whilst the ruling Fatah received 41.43% of the vote and won 45 seats. The newly elected PLC met for the first time on 18 February 2006. Incumbent Prime Minister Ahmed Qurei tendered his resignation on 26 January 2006, but remained interim Prime Minister at the request of President Mahmoud Abbas. On 20 February, Hamas leader Ismail Haniya was nominated to form a new government. The new government with Haniya as Prime Minister was sworn in on 29 March. These were the last contested elections to be held before Hamas took over the Gaza Strip in 2007; no new elections have been held since. The Central Elections Commission said turnout was 74.6%–76.0% in the Gaza Strip and 73.1% in the West Bank.[ (Information is from the Palestinian Central Election Commission website)

Always good to see people pointing out that Hamas is nothing more than a bunch of fundamentalist Islamic terrorists ruining the lives of Palestinians and Israelis.

@haleybrown2836 It would be awful but I would move on and build a new life for my children and theirs somewhere we weren't being oppressed and killed. People have had to do that forever too.

No become...people who want a state and government of their own have been killing and displacing other people who already lived somewhere for thousands of years. It doesn't make it right, just nothing new.

Not as long as groups like Hamas or people like Netanyahu and Putin exist.

Islamic nations combined spend hundreds of billions of dollars on their militaries and security forces. Since the US and western nations clearly won't solve the problems of food insecurity, maybe those Islamic nations could redirect some of that defense spending to help their brothers and sisters in countries like Afghanistan.
