@morgard211 also optimization is not perfect and sometimes breaks functionality in complex programs, requiring additional time to figure out what the optimized did and how to tell it to not do that.

@botondhorvath1445 it’s very rare outside of a few more common cases, but it can sometimes happen, and that a (albeit likely nowhere near the most important one), reason why by default optimization is off The most common case of this is the compiler optimizing out checks for state changes made by another thread, as it thinks they can never happen.
