  1. What he meant ( although he probably didn’t ), is that he had well educated parents. This will almost naturally increase how educated the child is. Living conditions ( or genetics, for that matter ) will do nothing for intelligence if the person themselves does not actively do something to improve it. Good living conditions make that easier. ( and no matter what genetics, something you do not use will be recycled )
