@zackmatulis4094 While planned obsolescence is real, it also has to do with being made of much lighter materials and tighter engineered tolerances. Thin sheets of aluminum and plastic rivets where there was solid steel and pig iron. The car industry was greatly influenced by the aeroplane industry because weight is speed and efficiency. It's not all malignant is what I am saying, some of it is due to real advances in design which have made our cars a lot lighter and more aerodynamic. Safer, easier to manufacture out of less material, etc etc. Of course it's not all good, like you said.
