Modernizing a missile is also a trivial task. Even extending the fuel tank is really quite simple if you have the capacity to do such work. It is very believable that they could have extended the missile and changed what electronics they needed to and had a drastically different performing flight path (to the extent the airframe can handle) and retain the significant base payload due to electronics modernization being lighter and smaller. Seriously a very real threat from any one to any one and was a significant problem all through iraq and afghanistan as well even with the most basic of engineering. Missiles are really adaptable

Russian design philosophy has been quite interesting but we are really seeing how their decisions in the past have failed to produce a navy that can fight the battles they are used in. It will be interesting to see how their fleet will continue to change and how much of their firepower philosophy is going to pass on, their new ships are a lot more sensible, focused, and dangerous, at least for the oceans we have.

@riskinhos Which is identical in function and role to a battle cruiser. Frigates don't have 24, 12 pounders and a ship rig but are still called frigates, don't be a fool.

@sadlerbw9 You can throw as much hyperbole and straw men out as you want, come try and do anything in real life and you will see that war is not a clear cut and clean result odds machine like a video game.

@nonyabisness6306 No, it really cannot. Not many nations are in the position Russia is, they are the extreme. I see a trend in these commenting accounts however. You know I often wonder how much of intentional clumsy action is mistaken for skillful action and how much of the reverse is true. I suppose in the end the strategy is to throw at the wall whatever works the best

@nonyabisness6306 I think there is a big gulf between building only century machines and total incompetence. Again, history has settled this debate and will settle it again. I have already told you that I am not impressed by any thoughts you have shared here
