Yep, I love my 2017 Corvette Stingray with a manual transmission because: 1. removable roof for more sound and wind 2 . feel the rumble 3. hear the 4 upgraded NPP exhausts 4. engaging because I use all 4 limbs with a manual transmission 5. sexy red color 6. gadgets and gizmos galore 7. the base model corners at 1.03G , even higher in the ZR1 at 1.30 G 8. stops from 60-0 mph in 90ft. 9. accelerates from 0-60 mph in 3.8 seconds (manual transmission). 10. sit low so it feels special unlike a normal height car. 11. from the driver's seat: look at the sexy bulging front fenders over the hood and hood vents , or rear fender vents in the side mirrors 12. Ferrari 458 like headlights with the LED running down the sides 13. vents galore 14. lightweight 3300 lbs 15. large trunk so it's my daily commuter car and grocery getter and for vacations (holds 2 overhead suit cases and I can still stow the roof) 16. ECO mode gives me a maximum of 37 mpg (39 mpg max when I added front winglets) at 85-88 mph. 17. the autorev matching makes daily commuting in traffic not as bad. 18. unique looking 4 center mounted exhausts 19. infotainment stays updated because it has Apple Carplay 20. flat-bottom steering wheel 21. staggered sized wheels 22. hood hinge is mounted near the bumper is cool 23. no door handles is cool 24. Cheap maintenance and is reliable, with Chevrolet dealerships everywhere 25. It emails me an alert if tire pressure is low or oil needs to be changed, etc. 26. tons of aftermarket parts/accessories (I added carbon fiber at the bottom of the steering wheel, black/red diamond stiched seat covers, louder exhaust at startup via mild2wild, more power with Attack Blue air filter, more power/agility by replacing the heavy runflat OEM tires with lightweight Michelin Pilot 4S, aluminum bezel knobs) 27. customizable settings for steering wheel (heavy, light), acceleration, handling, exhaust note, ride firmness/softness 28. the Bose stereo has noise cancellation so it sounded better than a $100k Lexus LC500 and Lexus LS500 to me.

  5. I rented a car on my vacations to France in 1999 and recently in 6/2018 (stickshifts both times). Here are my thoughts: PROS (in France and Belgium): - better drivers in France and Belgium (99% of cars have a manual transmission), especially in pouring rain. - round point intersections (Americans call this roundabouts) are more efficient and prettier - roads are smoother - gas stations have way way better French bread sandwiches and Paul's bakery. - diesel cars are way more torquey and get twice the mileage. - when a car in front of you brakes suddenly, they hit their hazard lights to warn you. - U.S. drivers are not skilled because they never learned to drive a stickshift. CONS: - gas is 4 times more expensive in France. - photo radar everywhere in France. - narrow roads - fewer gas stations - gas stations are 1-way which is more efficient - motorcycles popup out of nowhere and drive between cars, sometimes a police car squeezes between you and car besides you. - when someone changes lanes into your lane in front of you, they cut across really close to the front of your car even though there's tons of space in front of you, very annoying. - when coming to a stop, they tailgate you. - Super tight Paris street parallel parking and parking structures.

  8. I'm an American and when I visied France in 2000 and 2018, I rented a Peugeot stickshift in 2000 and I couldn't belive how the handling was so much better than American cars. The diesel engine had torque and the range went on forever. In 2018 I rented a Renault Grand Scenic minivan and wow The diesel engine had torque and the range went on forever...but it was too big to maneuver in Paris parking garages...felt like a Hummer1 compared to the other tiny French cars in the parking garages even though it was about the size of a Mazda MPV minivan. Too bad that Americans don't like diesel and stickshift! ------ So in the US I drive a bought new 2017 Corvette stickshift, and my wife drives a bought new 2024 Cadillac XT4... love these cars. Kids have the 2019 Toyota Camry SE and 2016 VW Jetta... great fun cars

  19.  @jonnyspeed  Torque is most fun on long trips when the fwy has 2 lanes, I'm in the left lane, and a slow car from the right lane gets in front of me because he doesn't want to be behind a semi in the right lane. In normal cars, I'd have to just wait behind the slow car until he overtakes the semi in the right lane. But in the vette, I just pop over to the right lane, zoom, then hop back into the left lane before running into the semi.

Current electrical infrastructure can't supply the electricity to all homes. Powerlines contribute to forest fires. Lithium batteries are mined by African children. Lithium batteries create toxic disposal wastes. There needs to be a law that prioritizes lithium for smartphones over electric cars because cars have petroleum and hydrogen alternatives. Providing more lithium batteries for EV cars is just opening a can of worms because the electrical grid cannot support every house. Not everyone can or wants to incur the cost of solar panels (which from my friend's experience only lasted 7-10 years) I have 4 cars, 2 cars (kids' cars) are parked outside. A battery manufacturer should sell to the highest payer. Ford, GM, and VW have deep pockets and they can pay more for the batteries and put Tesla out of business. An electric truck makes no sense because tests have shown that the battery drains faster when it has to pull. Hydrogen vehicles make more sense in trucks than EV. Hydrogen vehicles fuel up in 5 minutes like gas cars and they have a 1000mpg range; EV you have to wait 45+ minutes (and you have to wait for the guy in front of you to finish his charging) THere isn't a plugin at every corner like a a gas station and the charge is 50 minutes+ (assuming you aren't waiting for the guy before you to finish his charging) Gas stations pay tax to maintain roads, EVs don't That would cause a lot of unemployment.

  72. ​ @jonnyspeed  I've test driven the 2017 Mazda Miata ND2 (manual transmission) but I didn't like it so I bought a 2017 Corvette Stingray (manual transmission). The Mazda Club edition was too firm on the street that the rearview mirror shook so much that I couldn't see the objects in the mirror. The lane detection didn't work and the salesman didn't know why. In 2017 the Mazda also didn't have a backup camera or Apple Carplay, and there was no 12v lighter for me to plug in my radar detector. The Mazda was so tiny that I felt I was going to get killed by every car on the road. Although the Mazda was fun, after I shifted through 5 gears and thought that I was going 70mph, my speedometer said I was barely going 45 mph....it's not a quick car, it only feels quick. The Mazda's handling swayed and didn't stay flat during cornering whereas the Vette takes 45 mph fwy interchange ramps at 85 mph and stays flat. There's 12 Chevrolet dealers and only 1 or 2 Mazda dealerships in my city. Also in 2017, Mazda barely discounted $300 whereas I got 22% off my Corvette Stingray.

  74.  @jonnyspeed  I preferred the styling and turbo engine of the Fiat 124 with a manual transmission more than the Mazda which looked short because it is shorter than the Fiat 124. In 2017, I preferred the Mazda's hardtop convertible but that bumped the price from $25k -$38k so I bought the Corvette Stingray (manual transmission) for a little more money and got triple the power (460 hp, 465 lbs torque).

  76.  @jonnyspeed  When I noticed how quickly a Mazda Miata depreciated, I didn't want to buy a new one and there were very few used ones for sale with the hardtop convertible and stickshift. A friend replaced her softtop Miata and it costs $2k and I think it was 2 weeks in the shop (incur a rental car costs), so I factored that into the price of the car.

Customer service said they didn't care if I'm a repeat customer. F__ them. I've switch to other brands and I am way happier in reliability with these bought new vehicles: 2006 Toyota Sienna, 2008 Scion xb, 2014 Toyota Highlander, 2017 Corvette stickshift, 2019 Toyota Camry SE. I'll be replacing my 2014 Toyota Highlander with a new 2021 Highlander. In 2020, I even bought my teenager a used 4 year old 2016 VW Jetta with CPO (and Apple Carplay).

  160. IF all you're after is speed, then yes an auto tranny is faster than stick, but then why even bother with an ICE car, just get an EV instead (1 gear drag car king to 1/4 mile). To me, the farther and easier and efficient technology becomes, then less fun it is. For example, cars are faster and more efficient than riding horses but a horseback rider or a warrior on horseback is just cooler. Same with an ICE car with a manual transmission compared to an EV car (it's faster and more efficient but not very majestic).

  181. TESLA: There's only a 5 year world supply for lithium batteries (and Tesla is using up too much of that for the few , compared to how little a smartphone uses for everyone). Current electrical infrastructure can't supply the electricity to all homes. Powerlines contribute to forest fires. Lithium batteries are mined by African children. Lithium batteries create toxic disposal wastes. There needs to be a law that prioritizes lithium for smartphones over electric cars because cars have petroleum and hydrogen alternatives. Providing more lithium batteries for EV cars is just opening a can of worms because the electrical grid cannot support every house. Not everyone can or wants to incur the cost of solar panels (which from my friend's experience only lasted 7-10 years) I have 4 cars, 2 cars (kids' cars) are parked outside. A battery manufacturer should sell to the highest payer. Ford, GM, and VW have deep pockets and they can pay more for the batteries and put Tesla out of business. An electric truck makes no sense because tests have shown that the battery drains faster when it has to pull. Hydrogen vehicles make more sense in trucks than EV. Hydrogen vehicles fuel up in 5 minutes like gas cars and they have a 1000mpg range; EV you have to wait 45+ minutes (and you have to wait for the guy in front of you to finish his charging) THere isn't a plugin at every corner like a a gas station and the charge is 50 minutes+ (assuming you aren't waiting for the guy before you to finish his charging) Gas stations pay tax to maintain roads, EVs don't That would cause a lot of unemployment.
