My 2017 Corvette with 460 hp and a manual transmission is even more fun than a hot hatch.

Automatic transmissions still haven't given me 10 times the fun of a manual transmission.

@dylandetails361 Your 500hp cutoff really depends on the weight of the vehicle, quality of the transmission, tire size for grip, wheel size of unsprung weight and distance to the hub, how quickly (low rpm) will you get that torque so I get 300lbs of torque at 1000rpm (practically at idle), etc. So although the Corvette only has 460hp, its 0-60mph time of 3.7 seconds automatic or 3.8 seconds stickshift achieves around the same time against heavier 500hp vehicles.

@dylandetails361 Also depends on how quickly (low rpm) will you get that torque; my 2017 Corvette creates 300lbs of torque at 1000rpm (practically at idle)

@DanUtley Most people live in urban or suburbs and there aren't twisties to have fun. But there sure are a lot of fwy on ramps, straight streets and stop lights to have fun , in which power is king.

I was in Paris in June 2 months ago and practically every car was a stickshift, even my rental Renault grand scenic minivan. But when I came to Belgium, many tourists from England brought in their big SUVs and station wagons with automatics.

Launch mode is way simpler in a manual: gas then let go of the clutch. Unlike automatic, press this and that, and not that but this, and hold for 2 seconds, and pick your nose, and scratch your balls, then go OR sometimes it doesn't work and you have to through all that again and pray that the car goes.

Why do u think even automatic cars have a tachometer? Because it's cooler! Makes u feel that you're a great driver and driving a performance car. Plus, it's one of the few things that you can control and watch the needed spin. Electric cars don't have a tach so they're boring. Get a manual transmission and you get to control even more things to make more fun!

IF all you're after is quickness to 1/4 mile, then yes an auto tranny is better than stick, but then why even bother with an ICE car, just get an EV instead (1 gear drag car king to 1/4 mile). To me, the easier and efficient technology becomes, then less fun it is. For example, cars are faster and more efficient than riding horses but a cowby or a warrior on horseback is just cooler. Same with an ICE car with a manual transmission compared to an EV car (it's faster and more efficient but not very majestic).

@suspiciouscomrade1973 If I ever do lose with my manual transmission, it would still be more fun for ME losing while driving in a manual transmission than just stepping on the gas in an automatic and having the COMPUTER drive and win for me.

@suspicious: Have you've taken a survey of every diehard manual fanboy to make that statement??

Automatics are ok for sedans (dad cars) and suv (mom cars), but not sports cars or anything with 2 seats as they look out out place.

IF you are a car enthusiast, you care about fun, not fuel economy. Get Prius if you want fuel economy and no fun.

Corey S I don't think CVT has a fun range. ;-)

My 2017 Corvette C7 has a manual transmission with rev-match which makes shifting so much easier (and sounds way better on downshifts) than my 1988 Honda with a manual transmission that I sold back in 1996.
