  11. So? How does that contradict what Bremmer said? He's one of Bolsonaro's most direct and vocal critics. Regardless of the details of the supply source---and, frankly, regardless of the faith of the populist's constituency----the infrastructure, the institutional competence, and the social trust are already there. Kudos to all of the Brazilian leaders who have done the right thing.

  14. I think this is fair, as far as it goes. Which is not any further than the other mundane takes floating out there among the commentariat. Most of y'all assume the major premise that success is best measured by fatality rates. Which is overly simplistic, if not outright naive. If Obama had been President, the messaging would have been clearer and more transparently science-based, for sure. One hundred percent. It would have been better , by most reasonable people's standards. Certainly by mine. But you fail to recognize (at least openly) the real challenges of population control at this scale, in this unique society.

  34. Yes, in hindsight, the West should have responded more forcefully to Putin's provocations. Those are past mistakes. We can argue endlessly about realism versus values versus dollars. But none of that matters right now, in this moment. Putin, with his NUKES, can't be permitted to behave this way. Period.
