  3. Putin betrayed Europe, and Putin needs to go, or else Europe will grind Russia into petro dust. Russia is dead until it gets new leadership. Russia betrayed Europe. It almost doesn't matter who the successor is, as long as there is one. Putin is a backward thug. We thought we could civilize him. We've learned a terrible lesson. I'm not so naive as to believe that semantics aren't important. Calling a spade a spade never comes without cost. Medvedev or Navalny or some other equally problematic Russian: who cares? Russia needs to figure out the succession problem, since Russia has (once again) failed to do it itself. It's our job to keep them bogged down in Ukraine until they do. Which is very sad. It makes my heart heavy.
