I doubt many of us Americans appreciate how much effort you've invested in learning about American culture, while at the same time (assuredly) maintaining fluency in your own. American privilege is a thing, for good or ill. But we always mean well. For whatever that's worth.

@theforcedmeme : Eh. Most of them were. We can argue whether they've paid enough (we'd probably agree that they haven't), but to one extent or another, they've been held to account democratically. I guess the better question is, what does being "held responsible" really look like? I honestly don't know.

@solemandd67 : But no, the point is that the Viscount---this car model---was always and everywhere pronounced VYE-count, and if you said VIS-count, you'd be quickly corrected or just shunned for being an ignorant rube. But now this Ed guy's got comments. Engagement. So who's the rube? Me, that's who.

@moesizlac2596 : Haha! 100% fair.

A high executive, indeed.

My first car was my great-uncle's '72 Ford LTD in more-or-less mint condition, when I turned 16, in 1988. He sold it to me for a dollar. He was a great man. It was huge car.

I mean, honestly, as an American who does not himself own a pickup, but has a brother who does (for his personal ride), it kind of makes sense. I get it. As long as the manufactures can put those three basic features together reliably at the right price point, the pickup is a fundamental winner. As long as you have zero regard for aesthetic sensibilities and no interest in considering the nuances of the importance of choosing a vehicle efficient to its task. As long as you're an American from central casting. Which, just being real, is most of us. Somehow we're at the vanguard of fashion, while being utterly uninterested in the future of transportation. We are notably passive, as consumers.

Not only well-written, generally, but more pointed praise for structuring this story this way. These stories. For structuring this argument in this way. It's the best sort of argument, the one that is evidently the assertion itself. Putting these stories on the timeline, in parallel; not using the term "conspiracy" even once. Just presenting the well-documented history of what the actual industry players were actually doing. Love it. Thanks. 👍👍👍

I used to give you shit for mispronouncing stuff and other trifles, but I never stopped watching your content. This is great stuff. You're a good writer. And a good editor. I hope you keep doing these. 👍 "In a world of gaudy futurISM, this was a refreshing FUTURE." 😂❤😂

Also, thank you for this content. Particularly at this time. The magic of these places grows according to circumstance. Of course it does.

I think all of these would've worked, except for the Firebird. Unless you position it kind of like BMW does with the M series. The Firebird would be like an M3, and the GTO would be like an M5 or an M7 or whatever.

I hate to be that guy, but why not both?

WOW. Skipped a bit.... 👎👎👎

Where'd you get that footage? Yeah, thought so.

Very cool museum!

The Mark III was the 90s movie Titanic of 70s-era American cars.

We're actually in the FIFTH year of the 2020s. /ducks

You gotta dot a Batmobile history episode, particularly focused on the old television show! @18:12 , etc.

The 90s choice. I was thinking, "Eh, they weren't THAT popu---. Wait. Duh. My daily driver in the 90s was a black 4Runner in the best trim package, with a grill guard and a brush bar and a big-ass hitch on the back. Manual." Haha. We all thought we were so original. EDIT: Yeah, I guess I kind of forgot about the Explorer. Blocked that cheap little thing out of my mind. That's the thing, though. It was little. And cheap (shoddy). I never really thought of the Explorer as an---. When did we start using the term "SUV?" Seems like we just called them "trucks" until well after 2000. I agree on the choice. It was ubiquitous, and it set the table for the future. But still ... yech. lol

I was telling my son recently (who's probably older than you?) that YouTube has become a legitimate niche replacement for a lot of what falls under the umbrella of "television." But, still, for far too many (formerly me), the words "YouTube" and "video" make people of a certain generation or whatever sort of bristle---"ew!"---but it's not our fault. We're adjusting. Give us a minute, please. Be merciful on us olds! At any rate, this "teevee channel" has been an important part of this sort of "epistemological integration" for me. Thanks! :-)

19 mpg?! That seems high. But we're in to the 80s now, so, yeah, I guess.

The PT Cruiser of its day. Another "retro" Chrysler design, but with far less to recommend it than even this doomed design.

More like 900 million people, and going down fast.

Mercury Something-or-Other station wagons with "wood grain" trim and huge back seats and even huger back-backs that you could cram a lot of kids in when it was time for the 20-minute drive to the monthly 4H Club skating rink party.

...And try to make you pay a premium to get yours WITHOUT the giant ugly letters on the back, in typical American car dealership fashion. 🤣👍🤣

Nicely done. War is a business, and we citizens (with the help of our representatives) should be extra-vigilant in these times, and call-out the profiteers as best we can, especially those who aid the enemy.

Feels kind of like you're shilling for Midjourney which, contrary to what you implied in the video, is not free. 👎

You watch! Give it a month. Netflix will drop a 90-minute artsy-fartsy documentary about the dramanomics behind the mid-century design house competition that produced these icons, and it'll all somehow connect to Helvetica. :-)

Obviously, you really need to do US signs now. We don't just assume everybody who can safely drive can also read. lmao
