  1. Frustrating conversation. Interesting, but frustrating. Since Alfred Adler in the early 1900s, the most commonly accepted definition of psychological dysfunction (of any kind, not just addiction) is that its manifestation has a negative impact on your relationship with society. That's what you guys are talking around and around, but never quite landing on. I'm not trying to be the smart guy in the room, I'm just saying that there's a lot of work out there that's already been done on this front. The interesting part of the conversation is that you (I think rightly) don't make the distinction between physical dependence and psychological addiction. Yes, there is a gray area where healthy risk-taking behavior unwittingly causes a physical dependence, which then becomes the catalyst for a psychological addiction. But---let's be honest---that gray area is very small.
