  2. "Calling it automatic is a stretch." NO! HANG ON! It was ABSOLUTELY automatic, to us. Unlike a percolator (or a kettle), it didn't have to be tended to or minded once you hit the switch (the instructions be damned). Scoop, sink, pour, click, then you go brush your teeth and whatnot, and you come back to a hot pot of coffee, and you don't have to worry about any whistles or other time limits. That is (was), in a word, AUTOMATIC. :-)
