  1. You're on the right track. Different brines from the different 'salty' places on Earth contain different chemicals. The only thing I know that's extracted from the salt flats in Utah is potash in the Wendover area of the Bonneville Salt Flats. Not sure of anything around the Great Salt Lake; isn't it a nature preserve or similar?
