  1. Speaking of waste fuel, we have a closed nuclear facility in Southern California at San Onofre along the north San Diego County coastline. It still has nuclear waste stored at the site as attempts to ship it out by rail have failed. If it goes by rail it'll travel through some densely populated suburban areas. Shipment by sea is considered impractical due to coastal access issues and since its final destination would be Yucca Mountain in Nevada. So there it all sits, entombed in concrete 'caskets' just south of the City of San Clemente and some great surfing beaches, at the north edge of Camp Pendelton (Marine base), and right beside the busy Interstate 5 freeway.

  2. There's already a geothermal plant near Mammoth Lakes, California. I haven't heard anything about it in quite a few years so either its running smoothly or got shut down, have to look it up and find out. Lots of mineral/calcification problems with those, but its a maintenance issue normal to geothermal power
