  1. I'm with Zeihan on this one. I thought one of the objectives of NATO was to limit who had nukes (the USA, U.K. and France) and those would serve as the 'shield' while the rest of Western Europe concentrated on more conventional military technology to deter and thwart a land-based Russian attack.

  2. I don't think Canada would build "the bomb" for the simple reasons we have joint defense, missile detection, submarine detection capabilities with them in northern Canada. Any nukes Russia launches at the USA are going to come in over the north polar region and overflight Canada on its way to USA targets (maybe a few targeting the Toronto-to-Montreal corridor).
