Don't forget that the caste system is still very much in force in India, too. if you're in one of the lower castes your future prospects are limited no matter how 'sharp' you are, so overseas is where you go to advance. If you're in one of the few upper castes then you can advance up the corporate ladder, no matter how much of an idiot you are (as told to me by an Indian associate).

  2. Thanks for the input. I wasn't aware India has passed legislation to try and reduce the influence of the caste system on society. I'll try to find out more from my workmate. I know he didn't grow up under the best of circumstances so he might have an ingrained bias towards the caste system regardless of how its being addressed in modern India. He's a really intelligent chemist, went to university in India, then transferred by his employer over here to the USA. He does go back to visit regularly. As Zeihan states India does seem to have a lot of potential for economic growth, hopefully it can be achieved to benefit all in the country. Of interest to me is the Indian space program and its progress. Cheers.
