  2.  @zacklewis342  Easy to do with a few well-placed missiles. Its a short flight over the Persian Gulf to the Saudi's oil refineries and the main oil field areas so reaction time by the Saudis and USA wouldn't be good enough. I'm not sure if the USA has a few anti-missile systems in Saudi Arabia or Qatar. If it did happen I'd expect things to expand further as all the large oil customers jump in to protect their interests, militarily or diplomatically.

  4. They can put the wells in a 'dormant' state if the price goes so low its not profitable to pump, just keep the well machinery and safety devices maintained. Also realize a lot of the states/cities where extraction takes place charge an "extraction tax" on a per barrel basis so that ads to the cost of oil, and a lot of oil workers are specialized and unionized, so additional costs, too. I used to work for an EHS consulting firm that did work with a few oil companies in CA, TX, OKL, found out its not as simple as pumping it out of the ground.
