  1. Could China simply set up a blockade around Taiwan? Just like the mainland, Taiwan is dependent on imports, too, so preventing commercial shipping from coming/going seems like an easier way to do it with less loss of life. Restricting commercial aircraft would be a little trickier but still possible. It would probably take just as long to take it over this way as it would with a full-scale land invasion.
